AD 1620: Cats are introduced to North America, traveling there with pilgrims on the Mayflower and other ships.
AD 1749: Colonists of the New World send for cats from Europe to counter the problems brought by infestation of rats.
AD 1758: Method of Zoological classifaction is established and the domestic cat is given the binomial name Felis catus.
AD 1866: The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is formed, based on the RoyalSociety for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in London.
AD 1871: The first cat show is held at Crystal Palace in London.

AD 1895: First American cat show held at Madison Square Garden in new York.
AD 1900s: Scientist Louis Pasteur discovers microbe that reveals the hygenic habits of the cat.
AD 1910: The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF) is formed.
AD 1946: Spaying of cats is encouraged through the charity, Cats Protection.
AD 1953: The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy holds its first cat show.
